Colin Jackson - World Champion athlete
Arguably one of the greatest athletes in the history of British Athletics, Colin Jackson hung up his spikes in front of a roaring home crowd at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham last year. It was a fitting end to the competitive career of one of the nation’s favourite sporting personalities, having decided to retire from the sport that he dominated for so long.
Colin Jackson ranked in the world top 10 for the last 16 years, was World No.1 from 1992 1994 and has never been out of the world’s top 3 during the last 7 years. He is the reigning World Record Holder outdoors (12.91, World Title, Stuttgart 1993) and at 60mh indoors (7.30, Sindelfingen 1994) and since setting a European junior record of 13.44 in 1986, went on to set 7 European, 8 Commonwealth and 9 UK records at 110mh.
Colin Jackson is one of the most respected and loved of all British sports stars and his down to earth, approachable manner has endeared him to both public and media alike throughout his career and he is renowned as one of Britain’s most stylish and photographed sportsmen.
Colin Jackson kick-started his broadcasting career by co-hosting the BBC reality TV project 'Born to Win', where he led the nation's largest search for Britain's new sporting talent and he continues to appear on our screens in programmes such as Celebrity Bargain Hunt, Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and as a host on the BBC's pre Eurovision programme 'Making your Mind up'.
Alongside being on screen, Colin will also be developing his creative passion for working behind the scenes as he take on a key role as development producer for this year's BBC Sport Relief.
Meanwhile Colin Jackson will also continue to be seen commentating for BBC Sports programmes, including continued coverage of indoor and outdoor international athletics and he was an integral part of the impressive line up covering last year's Olympics and Paralympics in Athens.
