Guto Harri was born in Cardiff, read Politics, Philosophy and Economics at  Queen's College, Oxford, and joined the BBC after a Post-graduate degree in journalism in his home town.

He covered the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe and the first Gulf War.

He then moved into Westminster to cover British politics. Guto became the Chief Political Correspondent for the BBC's 24 hour news channel and travelled the world with Tony Blair in the run-up to the recent invasion of Iraq.

His first foreign posting was to Rome, where he covered the Pope, Silvio Berlusconi, the mafia, opera, wine, business and sport

He moved to New York in August 2005 as the BBC's North America Business Correspondent. In that role, he's travelled to about 30 states and interviewed a number of senior figures in the world of business and economics. They include Robert Rubin, Bill Gates, Eric Schmidt, Larry Page, Sir Howard Springer, Bill Ford, Jeffrey Skilling, Conrad Black, Craig Newark and others.

He appears nightly on the Six o Clock news, and has presented The World at One, PM, Straightalk, Hardtalk, The Westminster Hour, BBC World News and a number of documentaries
