Peter Weill
Peter Weill is the second director of CISR, founded by Jack Rockart 28 years ago. The Center for Information Systems Research's (CISR) mission is to perform practical empirical research on how firms generate business value from IT. CISR disseminates this research via electronic research briefings, working papers, research workshops and executive education and is funded by corporate sponsors and patrons.
Peter Weill's research centres on the role, value and governance of information technology (IT) in enterprises and he is currently working on a book on effective IT governance. He has developed and taught executive education and MBA programs on the business value of information technology. Peter has published widely including award winning books, journal articles and case studies. Peter regularly advises corporations and governments on issues of IT investment and pay off and aligning the IT portfolio to business strategy.
Before joining Sloan as Director of CISR, Peter was Foundation Professor and Chair of Management (Information Systems) and the Director of the Center for Management of Information Technology the Melbourne Business School (MBS) at the University of Melbourne.
Peter Weill co-authored a "best selling" book entitled Leveraging the New Infrastructure: How market leaders capitalize on information technology published by Harvard Business School (HBS) Press in 1998. Peter co-authored another book for HBS Press entitled "Place to Space: Migrating to eBusiness Models," published in 2001 which won the Library Journal of America's best business book of the year award. Peter Weill was a member of the Board of Directors of MBS and continues his association as a MBS Professorial Fellow.
